Awards, Reviews & Star Ratings

NZ Review Once again Ford Street has come up trumps. This innovative publisher has forged its name catering largely to the lower and higher ends of the readership spectrum by producing quality YA fiction and picture books. Now they have moved into books for the largest and hungriest group of them all: the 7-pluses.

Published as a companion series to Phil Kettle's wickedly funny, Toocool, and sharing the same cast of characters, Marcy is a lively, action-packed collection of stories guaranteed to appeal to beginner readers. With bright, busy covers, large, easy to read text, internal illustrations, fun facts, glossaries and jokes, these little books pack a powerful punch.

For those unfamiliar with Marcy, she is a dynamo with more than her fair share of moxy and unmitigated mayhem. This series sees her and best gal-pal, Bella challenging their school principal to a netball match, blitzing a class quiz, saving a dolphin-as well as a bunch of lost dogs-and being interviewed about their nomination for the Animal Carer of the Year Award. Who knew being a kid was such hard work?

Coupled with Toocool, Marcy is certain to be a valuable educational tool. Kids will be so engrossed in the stories they won't even realize they're learning.
