People have asked me about how to meditate so I wrote quite extensively about that in my book Coffee with God. Then they came to me and asked what they should meditate on, and hence this book which gives suggestions for each day of the year. I believe that as Christians we should... always ground our meditating in the Scriptures and so for all the thoughts I've suggested, and all of which are designed to remind us of God's constant Presence with us, I have also given a couple of Bible readings relevant to the suggestion. There has also been added for each day a place for you to make notes of what appeared to be important in your time with God. This can also be used in following years (after you finish your meditation) to look back on and see if maybe God is saying something new to you through those same readings. TERRY was a practising lawyer for 25 years before answering a call into the ordained ministry in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. As a Priest he spent time as a Prison Chaplain as well as a Hospital Chaplain before being appointed to parish ministry. He is now retired from full-time ministry, lives in New Zealand and spends his spare time writing novels. This is Terry's fourth religious book and he hopes to write at least a few more.

Eight-year-old Princess Irene lives a lonely life in a wild and desolate country full of mountains and valleys. Her father's palace, built upon one of the mountains, was very grand and beautiful. The princess was born there, but, soon after her birth, she was sent away to be brou...ght up by country people in a large house, half castle, half farm-house, on the side of another mountain, about halfway between its base and its peak. Her father the king is normally absent attending to affairs of state, and her mother is dead. Irene has never known about the existence of the goblins which lurk in the underground mines, but her nursemaid Lootie does know about them. These goblins are grotesque and hideous beings, who centuries ago were human, but due to various reasons, they were driven underground and became malformed and distorted by their new lifestyle. This caused them to despise the humans above the ground and vow revenge against them. When the peaceful kingdom is menaced by an army of monstrous goblins, intent of revenge, the brave and beautiful princess Irene joins forces with, Curdie, a resourceful peasant boy to rescue the noble king and all his people. The lucky pair explore the mines and battle the evil power of the wicked goblin prince armed only with the gift of song, the miracle of love, and a magical shimmering thread given to her by a beautiful lady who lives in the attic of the great house. But just who is this beautiful lady and what does she want?

              Tales of Giants from Brazil

TALES OF GIANTS FROM BRAZIL is Elsie Spicer Eells' second collection of twelve, illustrated Brazillian stories, originally published in 1918. In this volume you will find stories with unfamiliar titles. Stories like THE PRINCESS OF THE SPRINGS, THE FOUNTAIN OF GIANT LAND, THE LIT...TLE SISTER OF THE GIANTS, THE GIANT'S PUPIL plus eight more. When one thinks of giants in folklore, South America is not usually the region of the world that first comes to mind. We are more familiar with tales of giants in the folklore of the Celts, the English, Scots, Germans, Slovakians, Romanians and those of the Eastern cultures. So, to have twelve absolutely unique stories of giants from Brazil in one volume is extra-special. For this we have Elsie Spicer-Eells to thank. As Eells puts it, Brazil is the land of giant fruits and giant flowers. Of course it is the land of giant stories too. It is safe to stay that storytelling was alive and well in Central and South America when the Portuguese arrived in circa AD1500. It would also be safe to say that the Portuguese brought their folk tales along with their goods. Therefore it does not take a leap of the imagination to conclude that at some point the folklore from these two cultures became entwined to form new stories - much like the mixing of the dark, almost black, waters of the Rio Negro and the brown, muddy waters of the Rio Solimoes just north of the City of Manaus. It is often claimed that this is where the Amazon River truly starts. So, find a comfy chair, sit back with a hot toddy, and enjoy these twelve unique and authentic folk stories. TABLE OF CONTENTS -- I - The princess of the springs.... II - The fountain of giant land.... III - The boy and the violin.... IV - The most beautiful princess.... V - The little sister of the giants.... VI - The forest lad and the wicked giant.... VII - How the giantess guimara became small.... VIII - The adventures of a fisherman's son.... IX - The beast slayer.... X - The quest of cleverness...

All people in the world tell nursery tales to their children. The Japanese tell them, the Chinese, the American Indians and the Eskimos to pass the long wintry nights. Native South Africans tell them, Greeks, as did the old Egyptians, when Moses had not long been rescued out of t...he bulrushes. The Germans, French, Spanish, Italians, Danes and Highlanders tell them, and the stories are apt to be like each other everywhere. A child who has read the Blue and Red and Yellow Fairy Books will, if he or she examines and compares, find some old friends with new faces in the Pink Fairy Book. But the Japanese tales will probably be new to many; the Tanuki is a creature whose acquaintance few have made before. There are also tales from Sicily, Catalonia, Sweden, Denmark and Africa. Tales of monsters and mermaids, princes and giants, and beautiful princesses, who are, if possible, always prettier than ever. Here, then, are fancies brought from all quarters: we see that the peoples of the world, no matter their origin, are fond of just the same kinds of adventures. Courage, youth, beauty, kindness, have many trials, but they always win the battle; while witches, giants, unfriendly cruel people, are on the losing hand. So it ought to be, and so, on the whole, it is and will be; and that is all the moral of fairy tales. We cannot all be young, alas! and pretty, and strong; but nothing prevents us from being kind, and no kind man, woman, or beast or bird, ever comes to anything but good in these oldest fables of the world. So far all the tales are true, and no further. So find a comfy chair and sit back and enjoy these tales from yesteryear in the knowledge that the purchase of this book has helped raise funds for charity.

In this book girls will find 26 tales of Princesses, Princes, Sultans, Kings, Queens, Viziers and romance drawn from the mists of time. As always there is a villain, be it a dragon, evil Vizier or wicked stepmother and there is most definitely a hero to save the day. Sometimes he... is just a shepherd boy or a ne'er-do-well from the wrong side of town, but mostly he is a Prince in shining armour galloping in on his white stallion to save the damsel in distress. Herein you will find tales like THE SLIPPERS OF THE TWELVE PRINCESSES, BINNORIE, THE PRINCESS OF CANTERBURY, THE OUTCAST PRINCE, THE IVORY CITY AND ITS FAIRY PRINCESS and many, many more. But why a book for girls you may ask? Well, we've done a book for BOYS ONLY and it's only right that we do a GIRLS ONLY book as well. Some have said we are courting controversy and possibly even being sexist? We do agree - to a point. It seems that nowadays we are not allowed to use simple English adjectives to describe obvious situations. Neither are we allowed to be who we want to be. Why? Because the P.C. Police say so, and no-one dare disobey them! But in those moments when the hero of the story has risked life and limb to rescue his fair maiden then only the simplest and most straightforward words will do. As yet the P.C. police have not come up with a P.C. equivalent for that moment when, after overcoming adversity and every challenge thrown at him, the handsome Prince finally holds his beautiful Princess in his arms, gazes into her eyes and says Marry me. Be my Queen forever! - and I hope they never do, for this is the moment that every father's Princess dreams of - from the time she is born.
