This little book is for people, who want to learn the logic behind major opening setups, and how to best handlethe opening as a whole, rather than rely on rote memorisation. Explanations are abundant, and each opening isillustrated with example games, after the theory is presente...d. Although a relatively small sample of openings is included, those are definitely the most important ones, and knowing how to play them, you will also know how to approach therest of the possible kick-off setups. Controlling the center is the single most significant principle in the opening, and that'swhat this book teaches. The exposition is not very advanced, so beginning and casual players will derive the most out ofit, quite probably. If you want to get to the gist of opening play, without investing much effort, this might be one of the go-tosources

I have played over 50 thousand engine games, of which more than 10 thousand against Stockfish, and a large number against Komodo, so I have my fair share of wins. Read the book to learn what openings are suitable to... handle the machines, how to impose your style of play, and how to approach the game in a tactically relevant way. The games are amply commented and diagrammed. You thought competition between humans and machines has already ended? Not at all, it has just started!

This is intended as a tactico-positional serial book, covering the world champions. The first part features probably the greatest of all - Fischer.Tactics and positional decisions are roughly split in half in 2 suites. The aim will be to find the best move the world champions playe...d.Can you do that?In any case, if you can not, the explanations are there to help you out. Tactical positions have been checked with Stockfish, but the examples also show how imperfect Stockfish is in assessing the positional Fischer. Some would suggest it is easier to learn from weaker players, but no, the stronger the player, the more you will learn.Check your abilities and learn more from the 225 puzzles in this book, covering one third of Fischer's games.

This is Part III of my winning games against the top engines. This part features handicap wins. Most handicaps consist of 1 or 2 pawns material on average, factoring in relevant positional terms too. Though, that size of material advantage would include the widest selection of di...fferent start positions. Handicap games are definitely the most fun, especially to play, but I guess also to follow, as they feature imbalanced, tactically rich play, from the very first moves. For precisely the same reason, they are very good for training your tactics. Most of the credit for this volume goes to GM Larry Kaufman of the Komodo team. Whenever Komodo would play a match against some human, and Larry would post about the match on Talkchess forum, I would try my hand with the very same handicaps against the top engines. As said, handicap games are one of the greatest fun events possible in chess, so don't miss this book. Lyudmil Tsvetkov is a political scientist, former career diplomat, Bulgarian candidate master of chess since 1998 and one of the main Stockfish contributors. In the last 5 years, he has completely focused on chess analysis and the investigation of the deeper sides of chess knowledge.
