Follo...wing an evidence-based approach focused on identifying and reflecting on student reasoning, pre-service teachers are encouraged to develop a deep understanding of the big ideas in mathematics and the connections between them. Now in its third edition, this text has been revised extensively, with a new structure that points more directly to the learning progressions involved in developing a deep understanding of mathematics from the early to middle years of schooling. Interspersed throughout the text are activities and thought-provoking teaching scenarios for pre-service teachers to explore, whether individually, in groups or in the classroom. The authors' detailed knowledge of mathematics and mathematics teaching combines effectively with the book's teaching and learning features to help pre-service teachers develop the deep understanding of mathematics and the teaching and learning of mathematics needed to become confident, enthusiastic teachers of mathematics.

For individuals with Down syndrome (DS), the extent of the effect of intellectual disability depends largely on the degree of provision of appropriate support and intervention. In Educating Learners with Down Syndrome, editors Rhonda Faragher and Barbara Clarke have brought toget...her a number of expert contributors, whose chapters review recent findings in the field of DS education, highlight promising practices, and identify areas for future research. While the emphasis is primarily on the school years, links to early intervention and whole of life are made, with chapters organized into three parts: conceptual overview of issues in learning and teaching, learning mathematics, and literacy development. The book is also united by the cohesive themes of assessment, evidence-based practice, inclusive practices, and brain function research. Educating Learners with Down Syndrome importantly incorporates the voices of individuals with Down syndrome, whose personal narratives add significance to the research mission of the text and demonstrate the authors' inclusive philosophy. Aimed at researchers, teacher educators, higher degree students, and policy makers, this book is the first of its kind to provide a compendium of research on educating learners with Down syndrome.

Emotionality has long been recognised as a crucial ingredient in human beings. A good connection with emotionality is essential; and it is highly complicated and dynamic in human life. It can never be fully explained or analysed by rational analysis and measurement of emotions. T...he writer has published a book Emotionality & Mental Illness: A Multi-dimensional Model in New York: Nova Science in 2012 in which various perspectives in emotionality are described. It is also related to ones meaning of life, self and ego strengths, mind, body, behaviours and deeds, interpersonal relationships, roles and social functioning. Then, a multi-dimensional model in terms of feeling, mood, affect and sense is constructed to interpret the emotionality of persons with mental problems is also described. This book is an extension and elaboration of the above mentioned book, and the second in a two volume series. It is a further refined articulation of emotionality in severe mental illness. Based on the multi-dimensional model of emotionality in terms of affect, mood, feeling and sense, the writer tries to interpret and intervene with the emotionality of severe mental illnesses such as the blunt affect of schizophrenia, feelings of anger in major depressive disorder, a dissociative sense of fear in post-traumatic stress disorder and the lonely mood in borderline personality disorder. In this book, the writer begins each chapter with a focus on the various perspectives of a specific type of mental illness. Based on these perspectives, the writer attempts to integrate these perspectives with related concepts in emotionality hoping that it can provide a humanistic, yet pioneering, platform in interpreting and intervening in persons with severe mental illnesses.
