"Scott Guy was a good man, a great dad, a salt-of-the-earth farmer who was gunned down at his front gate for no conceivable reason. His death enthralled us, partly because it was so inexplicable, but also because there were no obvious suspects. When police finally arrested someon...e, public fascination soared - because the person they claimed killed Scott Guy was his brother-in-law, colleague and former mate, Ewen Macdonald. While on the surface a hardworking husband and father of four, it gradually emerged Macdonald had an alter-ego and alternative life of violence and retribution. The police case against him seemed so logical: Ewen Macdonald was aggrieved, anxious and angry - and secretly hated the person who'd been best man at his wedding, Scott Guy. So Macdonald meticulously planned to get rid of Scott and shot him as he headed to work. But despite enormous media coverage, the reality is that most of us still know very little about the case. To understand what really happened and why it happened, you need to set aside what you think you know and start over again, from the beginning, from that first dark midwinter morning. Who Killed Scott Guy? takes you inside the investigation, into the courtroom and tells the real story behind Ewen Macdonald's defence, led by Greg King. By the end you'll know everything the jury did - and much more"--Back cover.

Arts in community health is a distinct area of activity that is characterised by the use of participatory arts to promote health. Based on the latest international research, this book considers how and why arts in community health has come about, the characteristics of its practi...ce and the challenges it poses for evaluation. The rapid growth of this field of work in the UK from the mid-1990s has begun to impact on policy in the arts funding system, on multi-sector partnerships for health service delivery, and in local authority cultural strategies, yet the reasons for its emergence and the nature and diversity of the practice itself have gone largely unaccounted for. It encompasses work in primary care, community health and public health. Arts in community health has not evolved simply as a result of the successful advocacy of an arts sector keen to demonstrate its relevance to health, but rather through the wider recognition of a phenomenological connection between engagement in cultural activity and well-being. The pioneering viewpoints in this book promote an holistic approach to arts and public health, focusing on the development of the person and not just the sick or dysfunctional part of that person. Alongside the therapeutic benefits to patients, the book also considers environmental improvements to support staff, and using the arts to produce more creative kinds of health information. This fully referenced guide compares and contrasts the arts in different cultures and healthcare systems, how well it works, why it works, and the factors that determine its success. The case studies examined prove shared creativity aids public health and simultaneously identifies and addresses the local and specific health needs in a community. 'In the last decade health has become a recurrent topic in discussion of the role of the arts in society, fuelled by a growing body of research into connections between culture and well-being. This pioneering practice of arts in communi

All Melly the dog wants to do is play a game. But the cats she lives with... would rather nap. And the little prank turns into an huge disaster when Melly ends up falling down a hole that magically transports her to another world . . . Melly lands in a medieval kingdom and finds herself in the middle of a scuffle between a group of knights and a giant monster. A caring pup who doesn't know when to quit, Melly soon befriends the grumpy monster, whose name is Narra, and learns that he's been hunted by the king's army for years. Not only that, the greedy king has also been taking advantage of his people, stealing their gold and locking them in dungeons when they can't pay up. So although Melly would love to find a way back home to Mama and Papa (her human owners), she first makes it her mission to help her new friend and the kingdom. But how do you defeat a powerful ruler who has an entire army? It may just take a game that only Melly can win.
