This book is an excellent best-practice guide for senior managers and directors with innovation responsibilities. It describes how organisations of all sizes and sectors can apply design thinking principles coupled with commercial awareness to their innovation agenda. It explains... how to keep the customer experience at the centre of innovation efforts and when to apply the range of available practices. It provides a clear, extensive rationale for all advice and techniques offered. Design Thinking has become a number one innovation methodology for many businesses, but there has been a lack of clarity about how best to adopt it. It often requires significant mindset and behavioural change and managers must have coherent and integrated understanding in order to guide its adoption effectively. Many design thinking implementations are inadequate or sub-optimal through focusing too much on details of individual methods or being too abstract, with ill-defined objectives. This book uniquely provides integrated clarity and rationale across all levels of design thinking practice and introduces the ARRIVE framework for design thinking in business innovation, which the authors have developed over 10 years of practice and research. ARRIVE = Audit - Research - Reframe - Ideate - Validate - Execute. The book contains a chapter for each of A-R-R-I-V-E, each of which has explanatory background and step-by-step methods' instruction in a clear and standard format. Using the ARRIVE framework, the book provides high level understanding, rationale and step-by-step guidance for CEOs, senior innovation leaders, innovation project managers and design practitioners in diverse public and private sectors. It applies equally well to innovation of products, services or systems.

This groundbreaking volume examines the complex role of the cerebellum in emotional regulation and disorders that are insufficiently understood, subverting the widely held belief that the cerebellum is solely involved in balance and motor functions. Beginning with the evolution o...f the cerebellum toward a structure dedicated to homeostatic regulation and socio-emotional behaviour, the book examines the growing body of evidence supporting the importance of the cerebellum in emotions, cognition and psychopathology. Going on to discuss the implications of cerebellar abnormalities, Schutter analyses groundbreaking research and explores how cerebellar abnormalities are associated with disruption in associative learning in anxiety, the pathophysiology of depression and cognitive regulation, the synchronization of information processing in schizophrenia, the aberrant connectivity patterns in Autism Spectrum Disorders and explosive forms of aggressive behaviour. Collating pioneering research on the multifaceted role of the cerebellum, this book will be essential reading for students and researchers of neurology and psychopathology.

The Value of Empathy explores various approaches to understanding empathy and investigates its moral and practical role. The central role of empathy in understanding others, and the need for it in our social and inter-personal encounters, is widely acknowledged by philosophers, s...ocial scientists and psychologists alike. Discussions of empathy abound, not only in more specialised academic publications, but also in traditional and social media. Yet neither a clear understanding, nor a uniform definition of this relatively new term is available. Indeed, one difficulty in discussing empathy, in philosophy and beyond, is the profusion of definitions; the difficulty is compounded by a lack of clarity in the distinction between empathy and cognate concepts such as sympathy and compassion. This book has two aims: Chapters 1-5 seeks to address the dual concerns of the lack of clarity and profusion of interpretations by suggesting new ways of approaching the topic. The second aim of the book is to connect the more abstract discussions of empathy with its normative functions. Chapters 6 -8 engage with the theoretical concerns relevant to the ethics of empathy and raise interesting points about its significance in ethical thought and action. The final four chapters focus on the practical normative significance of empathy by examining the connections between empathy, vulnerability and care in circumstances of ill health. The chapters in this book were originally published in the International Journal of Philosophical Studies.
