Description of this Textbook

Continuing Chemistry has the scope of a full-colour textbook, the active learning of a write-on workbook and the interactivity of the electronic age. The book: As well as covering the theory needed for the Level 3 Chemistry internal and external Achievement Standards, the printed book now contains a 50-page practical section covering all the key reactions and techniques required at this level, and a pull-out Key Facts booklet for on-the-fly revision. The CD: The full-colour interactive PDF file of the printed text is once again the heart of this resource, with hotlinks to all the other resources on the disk. These include: Revision tasks: 152 on-screen activities to help students master the content; NCEA examination papers, with fully-worked model answers. For 2010 these include the 2007 and 2008 papers, and all exams are presented in an interactive format that can be completed and marked on-screen, so students don't need to have a working printer at home. Also now available as interactive files are the end of chapter practice questions, and a new set of Excellence/Scholarship questions. PowerPoint shows: 52 presentations, many with photographic coverage of the important practicals students should have done during the year, others giving step-wise instructions in how to perform chemical calculations. Cell phone and iPod files. These include jpg cards of the key facts for Year 13 Chemistry, that students can upload onto any portable device that will display photos, and PDF and PowerPoint files designed to be viewed on an iPod touch or any similar device, for revision on the go. Encounters: motivating stories that show how the chemistry students are learning is useful to people in the real world. The CD also contains a folder of Teacher resources, including Technician's notes, model answers and sample results for the practical section, and a password protected Quiz file containing over 100 quick quizzes for classroom use. Perhaps the most useful teaching resource, though, is the active PDF of the workbook itself, which now has form fields and comment and mark-up tools added so that teachers using a data projector can highlight key passages, complete questions on-screen, and add their own notes, comments and links to other resources in the margins.
