Description of this Textbook
In this anthology which has been revised and expanded aiming to provide a comprehensive coverage of the poetry from the Caribbean region, there are 160 poems representing the work of over 50 poets. The first part includes many of the major landmarks in Caribbean poetry, whilst the second part covers some of the less established poets. Notes and questions are included at the back of the book to guide the reader and the introduction outlines the best methods of approach to the study of poetry. The work is aimed at secondary students throughout the Caribbean and includes all the poems selected for the CXC English B examination. However, it should also be ideal for anyone interested in Caribbean poetry generally.

Author's Bio
Cecil Gray, former teacher and Director of a Diploma in Education Programme at the University of the West Indies, is well known for his wide experience of writing both textbooks and poetry. Ken Ramchand is quite a mover and shaker in Trinidadian arts and culture. He was the first person to earn a Ph.D. in West Indian literature and most likely the first lecturer from a Caribbean background to teach in the U.K. He taught in Britain and the U.S. before returning to the University of the West Indies in Trinidad where he taught until his retirement just a few years ago. He is active now in promoting a new Academy of Art and Public Culture through the auspices of the University of Trinidad and Tobago, a brand-new institution that promises great potential for the area. Ken is also a Senator in the T&T government, sitting as an independent, so he is a veritable fount of knowledge around contemporary literature, art and politics.
